Saturday night at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales, Flanagan TKO’d Orlando Cruz.

No shock in Terry Flanagan beating Orlando Cruz. He probably should have had him out of there earlier…

Notes from a big weekend of British Boxing

Shock loss for Jake Ball who took some huge shots.

Impressive debuts or early in career victories for amateur standouts Marcel Braithwaite, Danny Dignum, Troy Williamson and Felix Cash.

Anthony Yarde landed a quality body shot to get another win. He is another boxer who we need to see in with a live opponent. Frank Buglioni would mean Frank giving up one prospect? Hosea Burton maybe?

Bradley Skeete got another win. Again it would be nice to see him with a better opponent. The Gavin or Eggington rematches make sense before moving to European or Commonwealth titles.

Charlie Edwards returned from his defeat with an easy victory. Selby is the clash we all want to see but maybe not yet.

Kid Galahad also got a win but it would be nice to see him stepped up.

Reece Bellotti and Ted Cheeseman may be two of the most talented British prospects around. Both were again impressive although I would like to see Bellotti ship less shots.

Martin Gethin destroyed John Wayne Hibbert who is always in exciting fights. Bit of a shock, wonder where they both go from here. Dave Ryan is kicking about off a loss!

Carson Jones was unsurprisingly a bit too experienced for Ben Hall. It is easy to point to Hall’s injury but Jones had come into the fight and is probably a step up at the time.

Martin Joseph Ward got a win against Ronnie Clark. As far as impressive performances go, it was not. His accuracy and speed impressed over the first six rounds. Then, Clark fought his way back into the fight and wobbled Ward more than once, knocking him onto his bum. He was very hittable and seemed to run out of gas. Mitchell Smith is surely the preeminent British Super Featherweight prospect.

That may be the end of Tom Stalker who lost to Craig Evans. Stalker has never adapted that well to the professional game in my mind.

Tommy Langford just about edged a tight one. He looked okay but imagine he was in there with Chris Eubank, he would have been stopped.

Liam Williams was good but not the fight we all wanted to see. Liam Smith has suggested that he will fight Williams next in what would be a brilliant fight.

Katie Taylor was impressive, especially with her body shots. The opponent was ranked 37th on BoxRec despite her poor record. Katie needs to head across the pond to make it big unless Eddie can pull in their stars across. She should be rushed into big things.

Ohara Davies was not as impressive as expected but the scratched eye could well have been a factor. Josh Taylor is the definite super prospect of the division. A Tyrone Nurse fight intrigues.

No shock in Terry Flanagan beating Orlando Cruz. He probably should have had him out of there earlier. His lack of selling power is a real issue, how does he not headline this card! Next hopefully he gets Crolla, Linares or Zlaticanin.

Hopefully, that coma is induced. I wrote an article on concussions on another site and several of the last few posts deal with the 3 tragedies in the UK over the past few months.. If Robert will allow the link, here it is and it tells another story about what is going on over there. There is three to many.

As Bellew clearly shows his hatred for Haye, suspicion rises that “The Toe” may have put him a reverse bearhug in the showers after one of their sparring sessions.

Carson Jones having a good ol’ time in Class A ball. Eduard Gutknecht still in a coma thanks to a sandlot umpire.
