The official historian of The Ringside Boxing Show is so good that he was recently recruited by The Smithsonian Institute to help separate truth from myth about the event known as “Battle Royale,” when a dozen African-Americans would be sent into the ring to slug it out together for the pleasure of their white spectators.

Christopher James Shelton will be the featured guest Sunday to discuss his newest book, “American Slave-Boxer Sylvie Dubois,” which not only tells the story of the first known female boxing phenom in U.S. history, but also paints a vivid picture of what “The Sweet Science” looked like in 19th-century America.

This show will be a history-lover’s smorgasbord. Listen to The Ringside Boxing Show live every Sunday at www.radiomonterey.com beginning at 4 p.m. Pacific, 5 Mountain, 6 Central, 7 Eastern. Visit www.ringsideboxingshow.com for worldwide times.

Dennis Taylor is host of The Ringside Boxing Show and editor/publisher of www.ringsideboxingshow.com.
