Hopkins told TMZ, “You got a chance to get in a Ferrari but you choose the Pontiac?!?” Bernard is trying to keep it real…

Bernard Hopkins has called it “fake news.” Compared to Canelo vs. Golovkin, which follows in its wake and in which Hopkins has an interest, Mayweather-McGregor won’t amount to much, except as far as revenue is concerned.

“This is all fake news,” Hopkins told Boxing Scene. “He hasn’t had any experience as an amateur or a professional. How does any commission, in Vegas or anywhere, give him a license to fight a guy like Mayweather, who is one of the icon guys of our era? How does he get that chance?”

Follow the money, Bernard. Follow the money.

Hopkins is no happier with Mayweather than he is with the Nevada commission. Were it not for him, this “fake news” fight wouldn’t even be happening.

“That shows you the lack of respect that he has for the sport,” said Hopkins. “Boxing should not let, we should not let, the people in business of boxing should not let a person to just walk right in and get the grand prize of boxing. You can’t do it in basketball, football, hockey. It ruins the credibility [of boxing].”

But if Mayweather wins and wins easily, as most expect, won’t that at least be a Pyrrhic victory?

Hopkins is not sure. He told TMZ, “You got a chance to get in a Ferrari but you choose the Pontiac?!?”

Bernard is trying to keep it real.
