“Big Fight 2” in Chicago a Big Success

Friday night at U.S Cellular Field, three promoters put on a show to remember.  Undefeated Polish Heavyweight Artur Szpilka knocked out Chicago’s Mike Mollo for the 2nd time in as many tries.

With over 10,000 fans witnessing, Chicago Blackhawks Singer Jim Cornelison took the stage just before the main event to present the Star Spangled Banner.  In the main event, former IBO Champion Andrzej Fonfara squared up against another former champion, Gabriel Campillo, with the IBF #1 Ranking on the line.  From the media section, it appeared that Campillo had won 6 of the first 8 rounds.  But in the 9th, Fonfara caught Camillo with a right to the temple and a brutal shot to the solo-plex, which put Campillo down for good.  According to box rec, the judges had the fight a little closer going into the 9th round, 77-75 for Campillo twice, with one judge having Fonfara up 77-75.  Nevertheless, Fonfara is now lined up for a shot at the IBF Title in the near future.
