Bizarre Non-Slaughter in Leeds
Whether Martin Murray is ready to rock ‘n’ roll at super middleweight remains to be seen.

Colombian Jose Miguel Torres hit the deck 15 times as he lost a bid for the WBA Intercontinental super middleweight title…

“I really want the Arthur Abraham fight. Eddie Hearn was with [Kalle and Nisse Sauerland who promote Abraham] last week, so hopefully it gets made. I doubt he would give me a voluntary defense as I’m too dangerous. So I would have to go down the route of becoming mandatory challenger in one of the governing bodies.”—Martin Murray

With the crowd chanting/singing as only a Brit crowd can, Colombian Jose Miguel Torres (31-7) hit the deck 15 times as he lost a bid for the WBA Intercontinental super middleweight title against Martin Murray (32-2-1). Seven were the result of knockdowns with only the first being nasty (a straight right down the pike that made Torres wince in pain). The other knockdowns simply were the result of Torres having no legs whatsoever and an empty tank coming in.

The fight could have continued, but referee Howard John Foster did the right thing. Slaughters can be difficult to witness; bizarre non-slaughters even more so.

Whether the rugged and active Murray from St. Helens, Merseyside, UK, is ready to rock ‘n’ roll at super middleweight remains to be seen, but at least he got some rounds in and his third starlight stoppage win since losing to Gennady Golovkin earlier in the year.

Torres, aka “Mochuelito,” rarely wins outside the safe confines of Colombia and when he traveled to Quebec City in 2013, he was dispatched by David Lemieux in seven. I submit he should stay in Colombia.

All told Torres ate up at least three full minutes of time off the clock with his fifteen ups and downs….his corner man imploring him all the while but Miguel wasn’t hearing it. Which reminds me…I say McDonnel hurt Kameda with that long right at the two minute mark of the eleventh and nobody at ringside noticed….to involved with their back and forth BS.

“bizarre non-slaughter” just about says it all….I say the guy’s a welterweight at best and even then his body would be doughy and flaccid but at least he’d be in with smaller guys. Lemieux put him down seven times but he had to work for each and every one….this guy could not get out of the first round with GGG
