Boom Boom Mancini Hits Vegas

Christian Guidice, author of “Beloved Warrior: The Rise and Fall of Alexis Argüello,” was lucky enough to get Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini to contribute a foreword to his book.
“No one could prepare you for how hard he hit,” Mancini wrote about his fight with El Flaco Explosivo.
Mancini and Argüello engaged in a 14-round war on Oct.3, 1981, at Bally’s Park Place Hotel Casino in Atlantic City. The Nicaraguan won the fight by TKO, but a longstanding mutual respect between the two men developed.
Mancini won the WBC lightweight title from Art Frias in May 1982, and defended his title at Caesar’s Palace four months later.
Boom Boom Mancini is returning to his old stomping ground. On Friday, Sept. 14 (5:30-7:30), he will join Christian Giudice for a book signing at the sports memorabilia shop, Field of Dreams, which is located at the Forum Shops in Caesar’s Palace.ivitie

That was the great and endearing quality of Alexis. He could turn it on and off like a true pro. A genuinely nice guy outside the ring, but one who followed the old Joe Louis maxim - pals don’t count during business hours!

By the way…the photo above gives me the impression that the only mean bones in Alexis’ body were in his fists!

Robert Ecksel-“No one could prepare you for how hard he hit”....these warriors are “only” human….and when they absorb a blow like Alexis could deliver all bets are off the table….because at that moment, even if they never have given it much conscious thought, you can be sure that somewhere in their very being they start to contemplate their mortality.
