Camacho Legacy’s New Direction

Camacho Legacy’s New Direction
Tyler Camacho has set his sights on competing in as many amateur events as possible.

Tyler “SuperMan” Camacho, the youngest son of legendary champion Hector “Macho” Camacho, is set to follow in the footsteps of his father, who was murdered last November in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

“Ty-Ty” as he is called by his mother, Amy Torres-Camacho, is embracing his father’s legacy and has begun boxing as an amateur. He won his first bout in Dade City, Florida, on October 12, 2013, at the Dade City Fairgrounds, in an event hosted by Dade City Boxing.

Tyler has set his sights on competing in as many amateur events as possible in hopes of gaining the necessary experience to qualify for the Jr. Olympics and other National tournaments. He hopes to make it to the 2015 and 2016 AIBA Amateur World Boxing Championships, as well as to the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.

My nephew is just beginning his journey into the Sweet Science but it looks like he has the tools to succeed in the sport. Resembling his father and tall for his age, Tyler brings with him a quick snapping jab, nice combinations and smooth foot work.

It looks as though this young man will be a force to be reckoned with.

The Legacy appears to be taking a “New” direction…

and not the post-Edwin Rosario “Pollo” Camacho.

Good to see ‘Ty-Ty’ (with all due respect to Mrs. Torres-Camacho) want to come up the right way, via the amateurs and with goals of National Amateur championships and Olympics. Sounds like the young man has a solid game plan for his future. We’ll be watching and I wish him well…Irish, he sure does show an Arguello-esque physique indeed. Peace.

The genes may be Camacho but the physique certainly brings Alexis Arguello to mind…God rest their souls.
