Canadian Blockbuster in Sight?

Canadian Blockbuster in Sight?
Both Lucian Bute and the Haitian-born Jean Pascal are immensely popular in Montreal.

Rumors are rife that former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (31-1)  will meet fellow Canadian and former WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal (27-2) at Olympic Stadium in Montreal on May 25. According to reports, the Romanian-born Bute will move up to the light heavyweight division for the fight signaling a possible career change.

HBO will reportedly televise the fight, with the Euro-war rematch between Carl Froch and Mikkel Kessler being shown as the co-feature as an added attraction

Pascal, like Bute who had all he could handle with Denis Grachev, has only fought once since losing his title, dropping a unanimous decision to ageless wonder Bernard Hopkins in May 2011; just six months after escaping with a controversial majority draw in their first engagement. Both Bute and the Haitian-born Pascal are immensely popular in Montreal and throughout Quebec Province, so this bout will be a spectacularly popular event—one of the biggest in recent history in Canada.

Bute has fought before as a light heavyweight, while Pascal is more accustomed to the weight; in fact, he weighed 181 pounds against Pole Aleksy Kuziemski last December.

For the sake of boxing fans who like to see the best fight the best, let’s hope these numerous reports are true.

Bute is my pick to win. Canada seems to be producing some very good fighters and good fights. Boxing needs all the help it can get at this time.
