Former world champion Carl “the Jackal” Frampton announced on Monday via social media that he had cut ties with Barry McGuigan and Cyclone Promotions.

Barry McGuigan has managed Frampton since he turned professional in 2009. In addition, Barry’s son Shane McGuigan has been Frampton’s head trainer. There is no word at this time about the status of Shane and Frampton’s business relationship.

“I can confirm that I have parted company with Barry McGuigan and Cyclone Promotions,” Frampton stated. “I would like to thank Barry, the McGuigan family and Cyclone promotions for our time together.

“Having taken time to consider my future and discussed it with those closest to me, I am confident that now is the right time to move forward and take my career into my own hands.

“I still believe that I am the best featherweight in the world and I promise my fans that I am continuing with my efforts to get my homecoming fight rescheduled in the very near future.”

The homecoming fight referred to in Frampton’s statement references a previously scheduled bout versus Andres Gutierrez in Belfast which was canceled on July 28, the day before the fight was due to take place, due to injuries sustained by Gutierrez after falling in the shower. In addition to that bizarre accident, Frampton came in overweight at the weigh-in, though that didn’t delay the bout.

Mere days before the Gutierrez fight, Frampton had resigned as a director of Cyclone Promotions.
