TV game shows, much like boxing champions, have changed a great deal over the years. Things have gotten slicker, faster, increasingly frenetic, more heated (at least on the surface) than they used to be. In days gone by, What’s My Line? was a favorite for couch potatoes from coast to coast. It now looks awfully benign and innocent to our jaded eyes, perhaps because it was benign and innocent. The show’s objective, aside from selling consumers products they didn’t need, was for its celebrity contestants to try to figure out the line of work the secret guests engaged in. A soft-spoken Nigerian named Richard Ihetu appeared in his flowing robes to try to stump the panel. He had less success on What’s My Line? than he had in the ring…
