Let’s take a look at the current boxing landscape. What we can distill from there? (Fukuda)

    Giggle?

  2. Sam 07:14am, 07/02/2014

Dear Clarence: I almost have to giggle a little by your comment and hypocrisy. Everything I said was True, I have to admit the only thing I’m not sure of is if the Catholic Church or the Islam Faith has murdered more Bible Believing Christians. I’l be praying for you,  you’re a Lost Worldly Person that’s been blinded by Satan, The Bible says “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are LOST: In whom the god of this world(Satan) hath blinded the minds of them that believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. I ‘d hate to see you or anyone else end up in hell. Stop being rebellious to Jesus Christ and The Bible,  Repent of your Sin and Receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour before it’s Everlastingly Too Late. Sam Young.

Sam:  I’m known to stray off-topic on occasion, but usually to discuss one starlet or the other.  I won’t use the comments section of MHE’s fine article to address your appallingly anti-historical and heretical views.  I trust you’ll be consoled by our perhaps being in agreement on some core political, social, and cultural issues.

To “Clarence George” Listen my man - My parents were raised as Catholics so they passed that down to me. I went to a Catholic School for the first 4 years of my Schooling. During Catholic School or Mass Services the Priest of Nuns NEVER EVEN ONCE taught from the Bible. The Catholic Church is the World’s Largest Cult followed by The “Islam Cult”. The word Nun,Mass, Catholic,Penance,Purgatory,Pope is not found in the Bible even once. The Catholic Church has murdered more Bible Believing Christians like myself than anyone than maybe the “Islam Cult”. Just read the book “Foxes Book of Martyrs”. I became a “Bible Believing Christian at the age of 23, and have been through the Bible at least 100 times and have had numerous Bible studies. All Cults add books, other than the Bible as their Final Authority. The Catholic Church adds “The Traditions of The Church as their Final Authority, Islam uses the “Koran” as their “Final Authority”. And “All Cults” believe you must trust in your so called Good Works to get you into Heaven. Genuine “Bible Believing Christians” believe in trusting in Jesus Christ alone and his death on the cross as the payment for their sins. I know this is a Boxing Website but we’re living in “The Last Days” the Bible predicted would come which would produce a lot of Evil,Deception, of course with the promotion of “Lesbianism and Homosexuality”. God Bless, Sam Young.

As a history buff and traditionalist Catholic, permit me a word or two on the unrelentingly negative view of the Spanish Inquisition in general and Tomas de Torquemada in particular, a view generated by black-legend “historians” and perpetuated by Mel Brooks.

Contrary to popular belief, inquisitors had other things to do with their time than apply white-hot pincers to the virginal flesh of buxom babes.  Indeed, the various inquisitions weren’t bestial.  Moreover, they played an essential role in protecting both the Church and society from influences and forces that sought to disrupt and ultimately destroy the established order and culture.

If I may recommend…perhaps the best portrayal of the Dominican friar can be found in William Thomas Walsh’s “Characters of the Inquisition.”

Back to boxing…while I laud friend Frank’s mentioning, as is his wont, the great Harry Greb, I can’t agree with his assessment of the current era, which is far more of pyrite than gold.

@Sam - Robert is right, Torquemada is a top bloke, you’ll like him.

@Frank - I think Price is doing well outside the glare of British expectation, already racking up 3 small wins to get his confidence back.  He can build to a European level but remains to be seen if he can ever get to world level.

Some readers may not agree with you, Mo, only because
Harry Greb hasn’t fought this year but I believe we’re in a Golden
    Age of boxing.

However PLEASE leave David Price out of the equation…unless you mean the Tampa Bay pit her.

  8. Robert Ecksel 05:37pm, 07/01/2014

That’ll show him, Sam. One of these days I’ll have to introduce you to Torquemada.

  9. Sam 05:30pm, 07/01/2014

What’s up with the Allah comment, There’s only one True God - That’s The God Of The Holy Bible in Three Persons - God The Father, God The Son (The Lord Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit (I John 5:7). By the Way real Christians don’t kill people that disagree with us, like Fundamental Muslims do. God Bless, Sam Young.

@Clarence - Not coming to terms; not yet, anyway.  The Doomsday Clock has a few more ticks to go through before both realize that it’s going to be detrimental to the fighters in particular if this carries on.  More particular than that, I’m afraid Arum has a bucket to kick before a pact gets made.  What no-one has tackled yet is a cross-Atlantic enterprise, which truly shocks me.  GBP could walk into British boxing and have media eating out of their hands, ditto Top Rank.  The fighter pool gets bigger and the Cold War goes global.  I think both camps are approaching this situation all wrong.

  11. Clarence George 08:05am, 07/01/2014

You see Top Rank and Golden Boy coming to terms, MHE?  That would indeed be good news.

I’m not at all convinced Chisora will beat Tyson.  But I don’t have a pony in that race—can’t stand either one of ‘em.

  12. Mohummad humza Elahi 07:32am, 07/01/2014

@Clarence - Indeed, to each his own.  I’m optimistic to see the trend continue because I think the ante will rise even further because both Top Rank and Showtime are continuously chasing numbers.  If the numbers underwhelm, they’re forced to make fights that fans are willing to shell out for.  They’re finally waking up and the Money Train is almost at its destination.  I hope Fury gets put under a blanket with a lullaby by Del Boy, though.

  13. Clarence George 06:42am, 07/01/2014

To each his own, of course, but I’ve been more underwhelmed than anything else.  Yes, there’ve been a couple of decent bouts, but “packed full of interesting and exciting fights”?

The two I’m most looking forward to are Golovkin-Geale and Frampton-Martinez.  Big fan of both Golovkin, who’ll win, and Martinez, who probably won’t.

As for the aroma emanating from the heavyweight division…Chanel No. 5 it ain’t.  I kinda like Pulev.  But Fury?  Carnera was Louis in comparison.  Speaking of whom, Primo and Joe (and the other champs and contenders of yore) must be spinning in their graves at what’s happened to what had been the king of the divisions.
