Freddie Roach on Mayweather-McGregor
“He’s fun to watch,” said Roach. “He's a character. [But] he's not that good of a fighter.”

“He’s not a risk-taker anymore. He’s not the most exciting guy in the world. But, he’s still a great boxer…”

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is an expert at evaluating talent. Although he trains neither man, he wonders about McGregor’s chances against Mayweather.

“He’s fun to watch,” said Roach. “He’s a character. [But] he’s not that good of a fighter. He’ll let his hands go and so forth. He’s a little wild.”

If master boxers can’t beat Mayweather, what’s a novice to do?

“He’s putting himself on a very high level,” Roach continued. “I think he’s more of a four-round fighter at this point.”

Since the fight will likely go the distance, those four rounds will not be enough.

But Mayweather is 40. What does he have left?

“He’s not a risk-taker anymore. He’s not the most exciting guy in the world. But, he’s still a great boxer.

“[McGregor] can’t beat guys like that, in my opinion.”
