Bermane Stiverne’s dream in sports was to become an NFL linebacker, but he settled for heavyweight champion of the world (WBC version).

The Haitian-born Stiverne was a superstar in high school—good enough to get a scholarship from Nick Saban at Michigan State. But all of that went up in smoke with a knee injury, and ... well, the rest is still-evolving history.

Stiverne joined us on Sunday’s Ringside Boxing Show to talk about a childhood on one of the world’s most-impoverished islands (spoiler alert: He had fun because ... well, it never occurred to him that there might be anything better than what he had), plus a variety of other topics in a terrific, wide-ranging interview.
