Boxing epitomizes great drama. The narrative arc of each fighter's life is a story unto itself.

Hollywood and boxing have a century-long love affair that just won’t quit. From Alfred Hitchcock’s silent classic “The Ring” to “Raging Bull” to “Rocky” to “The Fighter,” filmdom’s fascination with the sweet science seems as natural as the fights themselves.

Boxing epitomizes great drama. The narrative arc of each fighter’s life is a story unto itself. Overcoming insurmountable odds; finding oneself in the process of losing oneself in the concrete jungle that is the fight game; the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat—these are just some of the reasons boxing attracts filmmaker and fan alike.

In celebration of the union of boxing and film, the first annual International Boxing Film Festival debuts on Nov. 30 at the SVA Theatre in New York City.

“We are very excited to launch the inaugural International Boxing Film Festival in New York City,” said Festival Director Gary D. Morgan. “We are thankful that the School of Visual Arts has agreed to host the event in their fine theater. Some of the greatest films in history have been about boxing and we are challenging filmmakers to contribute to that fine tradition.”

The festival will run from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1. If you love boxing, love film, and creativity is your middle name, the International Boxing Film Festival is accepting submissions for boxing-related documentaries, as well as feature-length and short films.

“I am very proud of the stellar advisory board that has been assembled for the festival,” said Morgan. “Our group includes World Champions, actors and members of the boxing media. We know that the fans of both film and boxing will appreciate the presence of these unique individuals, who are the heart and soul of the sweet science.”

The International Boxing Film Festival Advisory Board includes luminaries from stage, screen, and ring: Mark McPherson (Honorary Chairman), Michael Bentt, Mark Breland, Bobby Cassidy Jr., Chris Cassidy, Brian Doogan, John Duddy, Steve Farhood, Juan Laporte, Holt McCallany, David Schuster, Bruce Silverglade and Vinny Vella.
