Jorge Silva vs. Cesar Chavez
No disrespect to Chavez, but his fellow Mexican will tear through him like a tormenta.

Appearing on the undercard of the Shane Mosley-Pablo Cesar Cano main event at the Grand Oasis Resort in Cancun, Mexico, on May 18 will be welterweight Jorge Silva, who’ll take on junior welter Cesar Chavez in a scheduled 10-rounder.

Twenty-one-year-old Silva (19-3-2, 15 KOs) turned pro five years ago, winning his first eight fights, all but one by KO or TKO. “El Pantera” first tasted defeat in 2009, losing to Armando Robles by fourth-round TKO. Leaving aside a draw against Guillermo Arroyo two years ago, Silva won nine bouts, eight by stoppage, following his loss to Robles. His second defeat came in his last fight of 2011, stopped by Daniel Sandoval via 10th-round TKO.

The Mexican fought four times last year, beating Jose Maria Valdez and Orlando Escobar by unanimous decision in, respectively, January and May, drawing against Yoshihiro Kamegai in October, and putting up a good but losing fight against Alfredo Angulo, who won by unanimous decision in December.

Twenty-four-year-old Chavez (21-3, 9 KOs) is a four-year pro, who won his first 17 fights, seven by stoppage, until losing to Antonio Lozada Jr. via second-round TKO two years ago.

“El Dolar” fought five times in 2012, losing to Roberto Ortiz by fourth-round KO in February, stopping Francisco Urrabazo by sixth-round TKO in March, beating Marco Angel Perez by unanimous decision in June, losing to Mikael Zewski by first-round KO in November, and beating Julio Perez by unanimous decision in December.

No disrespect to Chavez, but his fellow Mexican will tear through him like a tormenta—Silva by early knockout.

We were right, Irish:  Silva by third-round KO.

I’d like worthier opponents for the Panther…but there’s a lot of things I’d like.

Clarence George-I agree with your prediction…..El Pantera will rumble and roar through him Montezuma’s Revenge.
