La Boxe au Québec: Cloud-Pascal
Although Pascal defeated Chad Dawson in 2010, not one ever mistook him for a giant killer

Tavoris Cloud (24-0, 19 KOs) will defend Gabriel Campillo’s IBF light heavyweight title against Jean Pascal (26-2-1, 16 KOs) in Quebec, Canada, on August 11.

The 30-year-old Pascal has not fought since he lost his WBC light heavyweight crown to Bernard Hopkins on May 21, 2011, the same title B-Hop turned over to Chad Dawson last week in Atlantic City.

Cloud, also 30, will be defending the title he won from Clinton Woods way back in August 2009 for the fifth time. His successful defenses came against Glen Johnson and Fulgencio Zuniga in 2010, Yusaf Mack in 2011, and presumably Gabriel Campillo a few months ago in Corpus Christi.

Aside from his historic loss to Hopkins, the only other blemish on Pascal’s record was a UD12 to Carl Froch in Dec. 2008.

Although Pascal defeated Dawson in Aug. 2010 with a TD11, not one ever mistook him for a giant killer. But if Cloud’s last performance is any indication, and it wasn’t just a bad night made good by terrible judges, the fight and IBF title is up for grabs.
