Ortiz Out, Stiverne In
It is unclear how Stiverne became the #1 contender for the championship again so quickly.

The World Boxing Council has sanctioned Bermane Stiverne to replace Luis Ortiz and face Deontay Wilder on November 4…

The World Boxing Council (WBC) announced today via social media that the investigation into the Luis Ortiz positive VADA drug test result had come to close. The WBC decided to withdraw its sanctioning from the Deontay Wilder-Luis Ortiz bout, and instead, heavyweight champion Wilder will face the WBC’s #1 contender Bermane Stiverne on November 4.

Wilder won the WBC heavyweight world title from Stiverne in January 2015, via one-sided unanimous decision. It is unclear how Stiverne became the #1 contender for the championship again so quickly; Stiverne has only been back in the ring one time since, when he faced journeyman Derric Rossy in November 2015. Rossy was unranked by the WBC.
