Pacquiao-Mosley: Rude Awakenings
Pacquiao vs. Mosley - Chris Farina @ Top Rank

Turning back the clock is rare. Other than daylight savings time. But it seems the only ones that have done it are great former champions fighting a great champion…

Older champions never train the way they did when they were young. First of all it hurts more. Second, they tend to forget years later how much they really trained and how intense it was. But when these former champs get a LAST shot at major glory, they simply train as they did many years ago. And almost without realizing they are doing so. By that I mean 100% effort every day. That their winning ways, along with they’re already great skills, are brought back to life in one fight.

I believe this is what will happen with Sugar Shane Mosley when he faces Manny Pacquiao. Also what fuels the fire is being an underdog, which definitely bothers former champs. Getting up for a fight is one thing. But when a great champ simply goes beyond his last few years of training and brings it, not only does it shock his opponent in the mid rounds, but he shocks himself. And with that rush comes the kind of quality aggression that has not been seen in years.

My prediction for the May 7th Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao vs. Sugar Shane Mosley fight is Pacman will himself get battered in this fight.

Manny Pacquiao never has and never will be a true welterweight. And this will be proven in May of 2011. Granted, Mosley was at his best a decade ago, but it’s fact that the fighters Pacquiao has beaten were really not that good. Let alone true welters. Also, half of his opponents were not in their prime. He has never fought a great welterweight. And he will find out that even an out-of-prime great welterweight is dangerous, especially when the ingredients are Sugar, Shane, and Mosley. The rude awakening we’re about to witness is that Shane Mosley is not the heavily out-of-prime fighter that Oscar De La Hoya was when he fought Pacquiao.

@ jim waldear - so, what have you got to say about pacman or mosley now? to me, it looked like shane got battered physically and mentally by a “not true welterweight”. rude awakenings happen in and out of the ring and it can happen to anyone. next time, i hope you can give pacman a little more credit for his accomplishments whether you like him or not.
