Luis Collazo has pulled out of his June 15 bout with Mexican welter Jorge Silva due to an injury, replaced by junior middleweight Francisco Cordero. The scheduled 12-rounder, for the vacant NABF welterweight title, will take place at Centro de Convenciones, Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico.

Silva turned pro in 2008 and has won 20, 16 by knockout, lost three and drawn twice. His most recent loss came by way of Alfredo Angulo, who won by unanimous decision in December, while he last drew in October, against Yoshihiro Kamegai. The 21-year-old “Pantera” fought as recently as last month, stopping Cesar Chavez by third-round KO.

Twenty-six-year-old Cordero (28-2, 20 KOs) is a six-year pro who won his first 23 bouts, 15 by KO or TKO, before being stopped by Jorge Solis via sixth-round TKO in 2010. The Colombian won his next five fights, all by KO.

“Volcán” fought twice last year, stopping Raul Mosquera by first-round KO in February and Enrique Rivera by fourth-round KO in September. Rivera (2-24-1) appears to be Cordero’s favorite punching bag—the Colombian has beaten him four times, twice by KO. Cordero last fought in May, losing to Michael Oliveira, who retired him in the second.

Cordero will learn to his dismay that Silva is a harina de otro costal from Rivera—chalk up number 21 for the Mexican.

Golden Boy Promotions isn’t exactly promoting the Panther. I’d like to see the boyo go up against, say, Jesus Soto Karass, who’s taking on Andre Berto next month, or Johan Perez, who handed Kamegai his first defeat, on June 8, or at least someone like Leonardo Zappavigna, who’s facing James Armah later this month, or Pablo Munguia, stopped by Alvaro Robles in March. After all, it’s Golden Boy Promotions.

Mike S.:  Catherine Deneuve never did it for me.  Same is true of Inger Stevens.  It’s a look I just don’t care for.  Ah, but Julie Newmar…she was among my favorites growing up, along with Barbara Feldon and Diana Rigg.  As for Eartha Kitt…she once sang “Happy Birthday” to me at the Cafe Carlyle.

I looked up Betty Boop, er, Yesica Bopp.  Regardless of her…assets, “women’s boxing” is, to be refined about it, bovine excrement.  I look upon it with the same contempt and loathing that I do Vatican II.  I’m surprised that a man of your quality could speak in favor of this abomination, this perversion of the Sweet Science.  Highly incongruous.

That is yesica bopp google images. Now after you are done looking at Ms Bopp’s career achievements please do let me know if you still do not like womens boxing. I met Ms Bopp in Panama a few years back. She is a fine fine Champion. I think she lost her first fight recently Clarence

Irish—ha!—how the hell does Silva’s chin remind you of Audrey Tautou?  Yes, I saw the movie, and she is indeed lovely, but not particularly sexy, in my opinion.

Irish:  I trust The Andrews Sisters will be there, singing their signature “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”
