Salvador Sanchez vs. Azumah Nelson at Madison Square Garden on July 21, 1982, was a bona fide barnburner. The 24-year-old Nelson was a little-known, last minute substitute from Ghana, going up against of the great fighters of his era, and he made the most of the opportunity. Nelson came out strong, jabbing and hooking his more experienced opponent. Sanchez came back in the middle rounds and dropped the young Ghanaian.
