  • Mayweather-Ortiz 24/7 Episode 2 – September 3rd, 2011

The first episode of Mayweather/Ortiz 24/7 is a hard act to follow, and episode two doesn't even try. Floyd Mayweather Sr. thankfully doesn't make an appearance, so the sparks don't fly, and Floyd Jr.'s temper for the most part is contained. But Roger Mayweather is on hand to offer his philosophy about this and that, and discussed the injustice of having to attend anger management classes just because he punched a female boxer he was training after she cracked him on the head with a lamp. And of course there's Victor Ortiz's side of the story...

  • Mayweather-Ortiz 24/7 Episode 3 – September 11th, 2011

The third episode of Mayweather/Ortiz 24/7 feels like a bit of letdown after episodes one and two. Mayweather Sr. is gone if not forgotten, banished from Mayweather Boxing Club. Roger Mayweather continues to train Floyd, and his comments are brief and for the most part unintelligible. Episode three focuses on the intensity of each fighter's training regimen. Hard work, followed by more hard work. Each fighter knows what he has to as they put the final touches on their preparations for Saturday's fight. Victor and Floyd each take a breather and time off from their rigorous schedules: Ortiz goes deep-sea fishing with friends. Mayweather buys another Rolls Royce for his luxury car collection...

  • Mayweather vs. Ortiz: Head vs. Heart – September 16th, 2011

To deny these feelings, gut and heart feelings, to operate solely and soullessly on the cerebral plane, is to negate boxing’s primal attraction…

  • Mayweather-Ortiz 24/7 Episode 4 – September 17th, 2011

In the fourth and final episode of 24/7, both fighters put the finishing touches on their training camps a week before the fight. Mayweather takes a breather and rents out a theme park in Las Vegas and eats junk food. He asks, “Why not live life to the fullest?” Mayweather flies by private jet to a pep rally in L.A. Ortiz is also there. Floyd goes to Burbank to appear on Conan O'Brien. Once the show wraps, he jets back to Vegas and the gym for a 2:30 am workout. In Ventura, not far from Burbank, Ortiz travels by private jet to Vegas and is met by a private limo, two firsts for him. He too goes right to the gym to continue training. The fighters arrive for their grand entrances at MGM Grand and the final press conference. Both men are confident. Both men are as ready as they'll ever be for tonight's fight...

  • Has Anyone Seen Yuriokis Gamboa? – March 14th, 2012

Robert Ecksel, Editor-in-Chief of Boxing.com, speaks with Rick Strom of TYT Sports about the disappearing act of Yuriorkis Gamboa. After being a no-show at pressers in Miami and Los Angeles in anticipation of his much anticipated fight with Brandon Rios, speculation has been running rampant. There are plenty of rumors to sift through, but it looks like Gamboa, who is training at Floyd Mayweather's gym in Las Vegas, has decided that he wants nothing more to do with Bob Arum and Top Rank, whatever the cost to his wallet and career. The question is why...

  • Mayweather-Cotto 24/7 Episode 3 – April 29th, 2012

The third of four episodes of Mayweather-Cotto 24/7 premiered on HBO last night. We get to see the two fighters in their respective gyms and homes, where the differences in temperament are in full display. Mayweather seems to find pleasure in every moment of every day, whereas Cotto by contrast is deadly serious. Floyd's warm relationship with his uncle/trainer Roger Mayweather is given full play, as is the respectful student/teacher relationship between Cotto and his trainer Miguel Diaz. There's no better behind-the-scenes look at the fighters as they prepare for Cinco de Mayo. HBO does what it does it best better than anyone else....
