IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and his longtime squeeze, the actress Hayden Panettiere, have parted company after 18 months.
"We had a great time together. But more and more we realized how difficult it is to maintain a relationship when living on two continents," the 35-year-old Klitschko said. "I cherish Hayden as a person and a woman. I'm sure we will stay friends."
It's not always easy staying friends with the ex, but if anybody can do it, the intrinsically decent Klitschko is the one.
"While we have decided to split, we feel great sympathy and respect for each other."

Although Wladimir Klitschko avenged his 2004 defeat to Lamon Brewster three years later in Germany, the bout at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas showed the invincible Klitschko in the worst possible light. It was before Manny Steward joined Klitschko's corner, before he worked his trainer's magic on the Ukrainian giant. But the first fight with Lamon Brewster for the vacant WBO title reveals Klitschko's deficiencies as they were at the time, with all his vulnerabilities intact and front and center...

In a fight that proved once and for all that a fighter can't be all mouth and all fists at the same time, David Haye lost his WBA heavyweight title and credibility in a lopsided decision to the capable but fading Wladimir Klitschko Saturday night at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg, Germany. Haye looked on edge, from the start. Haye knew all along that Klitschko was the better fighter (that other stuff was sideshow) and now the world was going to know it too...

Wladimir Klitschko doesn’t show the desire to take a chance in the name of glory. He doesn’t show the passion to be anything more than very good…

After running from Klitschko for the entire 12 rounds, Haye plaintively bared his shoeless foot after the bout, complaining of a broken toe...
