Rocky Lockridge won his first world title, the WBA super featherweight title, from Roger Mayweather, in 1984. Lockridge first met Tony Lopez on July 23, 1988, at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, California. It was the third defense of the IBF super featherweight title he won a year earlier. Lockridge was 43-5 going in, Lopez was 29-1, and the young up-and-comer going after his first title. It was a terrific fight, terrific enough that The Ring awarded it Fight of the Year for 1988…
