For those of us who were born in the 1970’s and did most of our growing up in the 80’s and 90’s, we came to know former heavyweight king George Foreman as a lovable, jovial teddy bear. Were it not for film and boxing enthusiasts who informed us of the contrary, “Big” George may have stayed that way. As image slowly gave way to nostalgia, the fact that Foreman was neither friendly nor approachable in the heyday of the great heavyweights seemed to fade. As we jump forward to the 21st century, the former undisputed heavyweight champion, “Iron” Mike Tyson has in some ways received the same sort of hall pass, albeit in a far different fashion. Foreman was mean. He was even called a brute by more than a few pundits of the sport.

By contrast, Tyson had problems. Really large problems, if we’re being honest. Accusations of spousal abuse, bar fights and of course, the incident in Indianapolis in 1991. Whether the facts were simply ducks in a row or a jury who likely hated his guts was adequately put in place, Mike went away to prison for a few years. Once he returned to the ring, a quick ascent was followed by an even steeper decline and he hasn’t entered the ring as a professional fighter in just over a dozen years. By bad luck or poor decision making or the like, he managed to lose millions upon millions of dollars.

In any case, Tyson of course took his memoirs and respective show on the road and audiences seemed to take high notice of it. He’s now got his own cartoon series, “Mike Tyson Mysteries” on Cartoon Network’s late night slate of programming. “Iron” Mike’s always been a straight shooter of sorts and his post-fight interviews still garner numerous hits on YouTube and elsewhere.

Recently, the former “baddest man on the planet” spoke to Barstool Sports in regard to next month’s showdown of showoffs between Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Conor McGregor. Opinions don’t exactly vary in terms of the bout’s outcome. Many boxing scribblers as well as fans of the sport are in agreement that due to the simple fact that a ring is to be used as opposed to an octagon easily points to perhaps the easiest, coolest one hundred million dollar payday either man will ever know. Still, most see a Mayweather victory and not a shock win for his Irish opponent. Tyson was in agreement with the former.

“McGregor is going to get killed boxing,” said the former heavyweight champion. “McGregor put his dumb ass in position where he’s gonna get knocked out because this guy (Mayweather) has been doing this stuff all his life since he was a baby.”

As previously stated, the men will fight in a ring on August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and not in an octagon. This is precisely where Tyson feels McGregor made his biggest mistake. “McGregor took the biggest sucker rules in the history of boxing,” he said.
