The Showtime Super Six World Boxing Classic Final between undefeated Andre Ward and Carl Froch has been rescheduled. The venue is the same, Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, and the new date is Dec. 17.
Hopefully nothing untoward happens between now and then to reinforce the notion that the Super Six Classic is star-crossed, if not downright jinxed.
Ward suffered a freak cut over his right eye last week while sparring that required seven stitches and scuttled the original Oct. 29 date.
SOG’s stitches will be removed later this week and, according to Ward’s promoter Dan Goossen, he should be able to resume sparring at the end of October.
“The goal was to get the fight in in 2011,” he told ESPN.com. “With the doctor’s okay and with Showtime able to do it, we all did a little maneuvering to make Dec. 17 work.
“People have been looking forward to the fight. You want to have it happen sooner than later. No matter what the date is or where it’s being held it’s going to be a hot fight. I’m glad we can make it the last big fight of 2011.”
