Having the heart of a lion will help, as will the mental fortitude to handle anything. But it’s not his heart and mind that concern us…

On Saturday, September 26, at Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (34-0, 33 KOs), the knockout artist from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, defends his title again 34-year-old Johann “Reptile” Duhaupas (32-2, 20 KOs), from Abbeville, Somme, France.

The fight will be televised live on NBC starting at 8:30 PM ET/5:30 PM PT.

For those who haven’t been following boxing, or Wilder’s curious career, having a heavyweight champion defend his title on regular TV is meaningful. But Wilder continues to fight men with lowly rankings who have little chance of beating him.

At 6-feet-5-inches Duhaupas is big, which will make a big crashing sound when he hits the canvas.

“I know my opponent has great size,” says Wilder, “and that’s what we’re looking for in opponents. He has a great record and he’s never been knocked out…until he faces me. I know Duhaupas is tough and he comes to fight and that’s exactly what we need.”

Wilder’s needs and boxing’s needs are two different things.

What Wilder needs is to stay busy and keep knocking guys out, at least until he fights Povetkin.

What boxing needs are competitive fights that don’t resemble executions.

“I am very happy to be challenging Deontay Wilder for the heavyweight world title,” says Duhaupas, whose biggest win to date is a decision over Manuel Charr last April. “This is a huge opportunity and I will make the most of it on September 26. Deontay is a good boxer, but I have the heart of a lion and the mental fortitude to handle anything in the ring.”

Having the heart of a lion will help, as will the mental fortitude to handle anything. But it’s not his heart and mind that concern us.

It’s his chin.

Something’s not right here….this asshole is acting like he’s the heavyweight champion of the great state of Alabama.

Who is Johann Duhaupas? He’s a guy who keeps his left hand low; a 6-feet-5-inch heavyweight who will get koed in the first round by Wilder’s right hand.
